I have available a range of different coloured Fully Certified (AANZ) Stud Males. Prices range from $500 to $800 plus GST. All are proven stud males with progeny. I also offer also multiple mating discounts.

Two types of servicing 

 

Mobile– in which our male will come to your property for the mating, returning for the

first spit off around 7-10 days, then approximately 7 -14 days later. Third visit around

28 days after the mating. After 3 positive successive spit off’s, I deem that the mating

was successful and that the female is deemed to be pregnant at that time. If the female

sits at any of the spit off’s I will arrange to redo the mating at no charge.

 

Payment is due at the time of first mating in full. If you which to use your own males for the spit off’s this will lower the service fee, so please specify this prior to booking the stud service so discount can be calculated.

 

Conditions: Mobile service is only offered in Canterbury area; extra charges may occur for South Canterbury and Kaikoura areas for travel.

Female must be clean underneath tail, and penned up prior to arrival in a secure and safe pen. Preferably haltered if possible. Female if a maiden, this needs to be advised prior. 

Pen floor needs to be suitable surface and clean 

 

Drive by– in which you bring your female to my property for a mating, returning home with your female. Female to be returned around 7-10 days and every 7 days thereon until 28 days, in which mating is deemed successful. If female sits then mating is redone. This is cheaper than mobile mating as I are not incurring travel costs. Enquire if option would suit you. 

 

Conditions: Female must be clean underneath tail, clean health record, and drenched minimum of 10 days prior to coming onto my property. Must be halter trained and able to be floated on and off with ease. Not recommended for maidens. In certain circumstances, I can home your female here for one month, although there are conditions relating to this and extra charges.

 

Spit off’s - What is this?

A female if empty and receptive to a male, she will generally sit for the mating and show submissive behavior. The “ogling” noise a stud male makes when attempting to mount a female, affects the female and makes them receptive. For maidens or very dominant females this may take time. Alpacas ovulate AFTER mating, so they can be receptive all year round, as they don’t have a “season”, although they do have peaks over a short cycle in which they can be more receptive than other times.

Once ovulation takes place the female will start to become unreceptive and will generally spit at the male, run away, shows negative body language and refuse to sit. Once the embryo is implanted, this behavior continues, the female continues to spit and show more negative aggressive behavior toward the male. Some stud males when introduced to be pregnant female or unreceptive female, will smell the female and not even attempt a mating, so there are clues and behavior that we use when introducing males to females.
